2005-2006 MTNA Performance Competition Winners

California held the MTNA Performance Competitions on November 12 – 13, 2005, at San Francisco State University. Sixty-one students registered for the competitions in eight categories with one category receiving a single entrant. The level of performance was extremely high. Thanks to the competence and dedication of all those involved, the competitions ran smoothly and the weekend was highly successful. Sincere appreciation is extended to the School of Music and Dance at San Francisco State University, which sponsored the Competitions and made it possible to hold the Competitions in the excellent facilities of the University. Special thanks go to Prof. Jassen Todorov, the liaison from the University, and to Dr. George deGraffenreid for the courtesy of allowing the MTNA Competitions to be held at SFSU.

The State Winner in each category will compete in the respective category at the Southwest Division Competitions, January 20 – 22, 2006, at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. The winner in each category at the Southwest Division level will proceed to the National Finals, which will be held during the MTNA Conference, March 25 – 29, 2006, in Austin, Texas.

The State Winners will also be invited to perform at the CAPMT State Conference, Costa Mesa, on February 17, 2006, at 4:00 p.m.

State Conference Performance

Congratulations to the winners of the 2005 California State MTNA Competitions who performed beautifully at the CAPMT State Conference on Friday, February 17, at the Hilton Costa Mesa.
The program featured three Performance Competitions winners and four Composition Competitions winners, whose varied offerings on their solo instruments as well as their winning original compositions impressed and delighted the audience at this well-attended concert. Indeed, it was a wonderful occasion to celebrate the collective talents of this outstanding group of young musicians who were selected last fall to represent our state at the next levels of the MTNA Competitions.
