TEACHERS: You may NOT register for your students. Parents/guardians MUST be the ones that register on behalf of child students due to liability and legal consent forms. NO accompanists are required and NO scores will be provided to the judges.
Honors Competition is for highly motivated students and highlights the repertoire from Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary periods. It is open to piano, string, wind, brass, and voice students from age 9 up to age 26. Winners from each district will compete in the State Finals in the spring. CAPMT Honors Competition will be a video competition for 2020. |
It is the responsibility of each CAPMT teacher to abide by these Guidelines. Failure to abide by the Guidelines will result in disqualification of the applicant.
Late applications forms will not be accepted.
Communication regarding any CAPMT Student Program must be between the teacher and the student program chair for that chapter/district. It is inappropriate for a student or parent to contact any CAPMT Board Member.
Decisions of the adjudicators are final.
Teachers, applicants, parents/guardians may not converse with adjudicators before, during, or after any CAPMT evaluated program with regards to that program.
In competitive programs, the student must have studied with the teacher a minimum of six of the past nine months in all stages of the competitions. This rule does not apply to non-competitive programs, such as Auditions.
A teacher may enter students in CAPMT Student Programs either (a) in the chapter/district where the student has permanent residence, or (b) in the chapter/district where instruction takes place.
Use only the current application form for each CAPMT Student Program; all others are ineligible.
For competitive programs, repertoire listed on the application form is to be used at all levels, Chapter (if applicable), District, and State Finals, of the competition. No repertoire changes are permitted.
There are no refunds of application fees in the event of non-participation.
* For CAPMT Honors Competition 2020, no scores will be required for upload.
Entrants will abide by all U.S. Copyright Laws and, when applicable, have permission to use all music given to judges and accompanists during all phases of the auditions/evaluations/competitions.
Entrants will examine their music to make sure it corresponds exactly to repertoire listed on Application form.
Photocopies: Music Release Forms will no longer be required at all levels of the auditions/evaluations/competitions. Before starting the application process, all entrants have agreed to abide by U.S. Copyright Laws. Entrants have stated that they have the right to use whatever music is presented at all levels of the auditions/evaluations/competitions.
Scores purchased online and downloaded/printed must be accompanied by a receipt.
Public Domain scores downloaded/printed must be accompanied by a printout of the URL.
All measures must be numbered at the beginning of each system.
Names and/or identifying information do NOT need to be covered on music.
Entrants forfeit consideration for any placement (winner/alternate/honorable mention) but may play for comments only if: 1) All music listed on the application is NOT presented for examination at registration; 2) Entrant is not prepared to perform all music listed on the application.
Students and accompanists must provide original score of music to the judges. Photocopied music will result in automatic disqualification. Accompanists may use a few photocopied pages along with the original score only to facilitate page turning.
Category A: age 9 and under (10 minutes)
Category B: age 10 - 12 (10 minutes)
Category C: age 13 - 15 (12 minutes)
Category D: age 16 - 18 (15 minutes)
Category E: age 19 - 26 (15 minutes)
The age determination date is December12, 2020.
Application fee is $50.00 for all categories (plus any applicable District surcharges). Application fee is NON-REFUNDABLE.

Communication protocol is as follows: parent-teacher-district chair-state chair-VP of Competitions. Please follow this chain of communication as outlined in the CAPMT Competitions Handbooks.
A list of CAPMT Competitions Winners will be emailed approximately one week after the submission deadline. Awards for 1st, 2nd (Alternate) and 3rd Place Winners and Honorable Mentions (not ranked) in each Category will be emailed to teachers.
