CAPMT Endowment Fund Award FAQs

What is the CAPMT Endowment Fund?
The Endowment Fund supports California music teachers, students, and collegiate chapters through six annual awards recognizing teaching excellence, volunteer service, professional development, and student enrichment.

What is the source of the Endowment Fund Award money?
The money comes from interest earned on the Endowment Fund Investment account. The amount available each year is determined by market activity and may vary from year to year.

When is the application period?
Applications are accepted September 1–15 each calendar year. Early or late applications will not be considered.

Can I apply every year?
Yes.

Can I submit more than one application per year?
Yes, but only one award will be given per applicant.

Can I apply by mail?
No. Applications are accepted online only.

What is the review and decision process?
All complete applications are reviewed by the CAPMT Endowment Fund Committee. Decisions are based on demonstrated merit, potential impact, and alignment with the Fund's mission to support music education in California. Award decisions are final and cannot be appealed.

Am I guaranteed to receive an award if I apply?
No. Awards are based on the completeness of the application, the relevance of the request to the award category, and the number of applications received for each award.

Can a teacher complete an application for a student?
No. Students aged 14 and older must complete their own applications. Students aged 13 and under must have a parent or guardian submit the application. Applications completed by a teacher on behalf of a student will not be considered.

Can I submit an application to meet the deadline and then send additional documentation afterward?
No. All applications must be complete at the time of submission.

Are awards given to non-CAPMT teachers?
No. Only teachers who are active members of MTNA/CAPMT at the time they submit an application are eligible for awards.

Are awards given to students of non-CAPMT teachers?
No.

Are all awards given each year?
Not necessarily. If there are no suitable applications in a category, an award will not be given. If the markets perform poorly and the Endowment Fund Investment account declines, awards may not be given. Any or all applications may go unselected.

If I receive an award, will I receive the amount requested?
Not necessarily. Award amounts are determined by the thoroughness of the application, its relevance to the award category, and the funds available from the Endowment Fund Investment account. The pool of available award money for each calendar year is divided equitably among selected recipients.
