    2020 CAPMT Contemporary Competition District 9

    CAPMT Contemporary Competition for highly motivated students and highlights the contemporary repertoire. It is open to piano, string, wind, brass and voice students from age 9 up to age 26. The Contemporary Competition offers opportunity to compete repertoire written by a composer with a death date on or after January 1, 1945. Winners from each district will compete in the State Finals on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at San Francisco State University.

    Contemporary Competition Repertoire Guidelines:

    1. Students will perform a memorized program of original works in the allotted time (NO CONCERTI OR WORKS FOR SOLO INSTRUMENT AND ORCHESTRA) written by a composer with a death rate on or after January 1, 1945.

    2. Students and accompanists must provide original score of music to the judges.  Photocopied music will result in automatic disqualification. Accompanists may use a few photocopied pages along with the original score only to facilitate page turning.      3.  Pieces from “method books,” easier “teaching pieces”, or simplified                     arrangements are not acceptable.

     4.  Singers must include one selection in English and one in a language other          than English.

    This is a friendly reminder that parents of students with the top score of 5 (5+, 5, or 5-) that qualify for the Southern Festival must register online by December 15, 2019!  Students will NOT be automatically registered for the Southern Festival. All registration is to be completed by the parent (not the teacher).

    Applications will only be accepted ONLINE.

    A parent/legal guardian must register their child for the appropriate application:
